EMPRESS ENHANCES EMBEDDED RDBMS WITH WEB & JAVA

New features: HTML toolkit, support of Java applets, JDBC/ODBC bridge.

March 31, 1997 -- Greenbelt, MD -- Empress Software announces enhancements to the Embedded Empress Developer's Toolkit, a suite of database application development tools designed for the embedded systems developer. Empress has added Internet/Intranet web support to its HTML toolkit, support of Java applets and a JDBC/ODBC bridge. With these enhancements, embedded developers can easily and affordably create dynamic and interactive RDBMS driven web applications. The HTML toolkit enables application developers to link their web pages to the Embedded Empress RDBMS via CGI database calls. For added creativity and flexibility, the HTML toolkit also supports Java applets. And for the latest technology, the JDBC/ODBC bridge allows Java programmers to access Empress databases using standard JDBC calls.

At the core of the Embedded Empress Developer's Toolkit lies the Empress Relational Database Management System (RDBMS), as well as the enhanced ODBC Server for rapid data transfer, Empress Dynamic SQL for greater flexibility in embedding ANSI SQL statements in C programs and the HTML toolkit for interfacing database applications to the Internet/Intranet.

"Speed, efficiency and control are central concerns to embedded application developers. Empress optimizes its RDBMS technology to be the fastest handler of binary large objects within the UNIX database market," said Njai Wong, Director of Product Development.

The Embedded Empress Developer's toolkit provides manufacturers and developers of application systems with a reliable, easy to embed RDBMS. This toolkit is available at a competitive cost/performance price starting at $1000 for PCS, $4,000 for typical workstations and $16,000 for mid-range servers. The Toolkit runs on Unix and Windows platforms including: Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 95, SCO, QNX, Lynx, Linux, Sun Solaris, HP-UX, IBM with AIX, DEC's Digital Unix, Silicon Graphics' IRIX.

Empress Software develops and supports the Empress Relational Database Management System for the embedded market. The Embedded Empress RDBMS is one of the most powerful and cost-effective development databases available for scientific and engineering organizations using Unix, Windows or real-time environments. The Embedded Empress RDBMS is capable of managing text and multimedia data in the most demanding applications such as weather forecasting, space exploration, flight simulation, image and voice management, geographical information systems, and network management.
